Life is hectic when you are moving. Add in a few kids and pets, and it is down right chaotic. One of our concerns with moving to a house was how our cats would react to a new environment. Our male cat usually goes with the flow, but our female cat is another story. She often walks around hissing at everything and growling at us. One issue we have always had with her over the years was getting her to use a litter box. I have been cleaning up after this cat for eight years, and have tried everything. She still won’t go in her box. I was thinking of some sort of litter aide for the move to help ease the transition for her, so when I had the opportunity to try out some Litter Getter All Natural Litter Training Solution, I was game.

Litter Getter is an herbal cat attractant manufactured by Elkhorn Valley Animal Care. It contains natural herbs, antioxidants, and natural deodorizers to make the litter box and attractive and pleasant experience for your furry friend.

The litter Getter comes in a 20 ounce jar, which can provide up to three months worth of usage for one litter box. Simply add about one fourth of the jar or 5 ounces of litter Getter to every 20 to 25 pounds of litter.

The pros of Litter Getter:

  • Pet friendly
  • Earth friendly
  • Made in the USA
  • Clumps with cat litter
  • All natural
  • Pleasant smelling and deodorizes

It smells like catnip, green tea, and alfalfa. I feel much better using a product like this versus those crystals and whatnot filled with mystery ingredients.

My cats love the smell and rolling around in the Litter Getter. I imagine it really does help get kittens to their box since the smell is rather enticing. The success for our cats is mixed. They were able to find their new, sterilized boxes right away. (And our male kitty, Bishop, used them right away.) The downside is, as lovely as this mixture is, it was not enough to help with eight plus years of litter box behavior in our female cat. She was five years old when we adopted her and she had three other owners before us. They all seemed to have bogus reasons for getting rid of her. I suspect they gave her to the shelter for the same issue I have been dealing with for the last eight years: she simply won’t go in a box. At 13 years old, it is unlikely we will break her of this behavior.

There is a slight chance she simply does not want to share a box, but the only way to remedy that is to lock her in the basement with her own box, while the other cat is locked upstairs with his box. I have actually been trying this for a couple days to see if it was a solution. She actually has NOT wet or pooped anywhere I can find in the basement, so I can assume it is ending up in the box with the litter Getter. This is not a long term solution though. That is just not fair to the basement cat.

After multiple Vet visits, blood and urine tests, every litter on the market, and now a few cat attractant products, I am at a loss for our female kitty. We have lived here all of two weeks and she has already ruined the carpet.

However, if you are looking for a litter attractant that is green, I would give Litter Getter a try. It is about as eco-friendly as you can get, and the wide mouth jar is going to make a great coloring crayon jar when we finish with the Litter Getter. I care very much about the health of my pets, so a natural product ranks high on my list. I only wish it was a miracle cure for my stubborn girl. In the mean time, our male kitty Bishop is all over this stuff, plus it is a great box deodorizer.
